A great photo by our resident lensman Gary Bray of Andy Foster and Jason Peacock celebrating after securing the last Grand Prix title of the season at Fistral Beach, October 2011 as well as the National Surf Championship title and the Team Championships.
Andy, you guys are coming into the first event of 2012 to defend your titles from what was clearly your best ever season how does that feel?
Yes, we had some good results when the boat was behaving and we know we had our fair share of good luck too, I guess that’s racing? It was an amazing season for us and we are confident we can improve too!
21-22 April, Fistral Beach, Newquay
Kicking off the season in style, Zapcat Racing will return to Fistral Beach for a weekend of adrenalin-fuelled entertainment.
Last September’s Zapcat Racing Championships saw spectacular jumps and racing prowess from not only the teams, but a pod of dolphins that put on a fantastic show for spectators in the sunshine. It is hoped that this spring’s racing will provide more of the same.
Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 April will see the start of Zapcat Racing in 2012 with the first two rounds of the National & Surf Championships and the first Newquay Grand Prix.
This year will play host to 20 teams, including five Rookies, and with the largest ever contingent of racers from the Royal Marines – the majority having just returned from duty in Afghanistan.
It is thanks to Newquay BID, Fistral Beach Bar, the Hotel Victoria and new sponsor Asahi Beer that Zapcat Racing can bring this thrilling, free-to-view event to Newquay’s shores once again for both spring and autumn.
Nick Webb, Events Manager for the International Surf Centre said:
Some famous or is that infamous? Some loved... some unused ...some very successful or just raced hard but all (with the exception of one) have provided hours of fun and adventures.
We would also like to see them all competing again and there is no excuse with no race fees for the 2012 season and some great venues!
So go to the new ZAPCAT BROKERAGE and take your pick..
Due to other commitments and family responsibilities we have a couple of ex race boats including the new EVO design hull available for immediate sale.
Full details will appear in the brokerage section later this week, however you can contact secretary@zapcat-racing.com in the interim.
Prices vary from £4,500 to £6,500 and packages also include trailers and most of the kit needed to start you racing.
These bargains will not remain unsold for very long so make sure you get in quick and still have plenty of practice time before the season kicks off in Newquay on 21 April.
Announced today, Zapcat Racing has made the bold decision to remove race fees for all entrants to the 2012 Zapcat National Championship.
This shrewd move puts the class well ahead of any other and ultimately means racers will pay less than £5 per race after they have paid their annual class membership and RYA race licence fees!
